Mattie's World
As kids, we're taught to respect our elders; as an adult, that hasn't changed for me. When my grandmother Mattie was diagnosed with Dementia, my family & my worlds got turned upside down, and our conversations with her stopped. I started photographing "Mattie's World" to connect with her and learn things about her life that she could no longer tell me. Going through her things showed me the woman she was before her illness. I viewed her as more than just my grandmother. I saw her as a Christian, wife, mother, and sister. I documented her house as she left it in black and white, representing her timeless legacy. Although she is no longer with us, her presents are still felt. One thing I want people to take from "Mattie's World" is life is short; take the time to connect with people.
